of near-faint, weather and microbio practical

Woozy again

I’ve just finished my group discussion on blood protozoa. Learning about all these parasites is really making me extra conscious of my hygiene. Maybe I’ll write all about it another day. I have lots to do actually. Actually, I came late to the discussion held in MY room coz I had to attend two meetings prior to it. One was for The Catalyst while the other was the MSC monthly meeting. They said it was optional for me to attend so I just made an appearance towards the end of it. Even that ended at 11 pm so I missed much of the discussion anyway. How am I supposed to survive the parasito tuto tomorrow?

Enuf on that for now. My real intention was to write on yesterday’s incident. It happened to me again. This time during my first silat lesson. I became woozy again. I was fasting yesterday. It was my last day of the Shawal fasts. The whole day went fine. I thought after a heavy dinner the night before, I could survive a year, but I became dizzy and wobbly half-way through silat practice which was around 6.15 pm. It wasn’t the lesson coz it was in no way strenuous. We were just learning basics. Maybe I was just dehydrated thus causing hypotension due to hypovolemia. All my compensatory mechanisms were starting to decline and lose out.

I could sense it was gonna happen coz I’ve experienced those signs before. Dah masak dah dengan tanda2 tuh. It was the exact signs that occurred during that day when the computer guy came and also the time I was cleansing the ayam dulu and the time during anatomy practical where we had to stand for along time. I can even remember this happening as far back as my form one year at SMIH. In all the incidents, the common factor was prolonged standing. Maybe there was pooling of blood in my lower extremities that less blood was supplied to the brain. But in the last two recent incidents, I was also fasting. That’s why I didn’t fast today although I wanted to. But, I didn’t want history to repeat itself at today’s silat practical. Alhamdulillah, all went well. No passing out or dizziness or wooziness.

I just cannot control my body. When it happens, it happens. I think I have a disease of some kind which still remains a mystery to me. I’ve been taking all these supplements and all but still it occurs.

The signs that occur every time are the same. The same lightheaded feeling followed by the same effect on my vision. I start to see black dots. My surroundings start to gradually become blur. My feet go all jelly-like and give way. I feel like collapsing and then just before I black out, I sit down or squat or lay down or rest. My face goes all pale (this I don’t really know but people tell me I look it when it’s happening). Well, it happens exactly like that all the time. The good news is, I’ve never reached the pass-out stage. I’ve never fainted in my life. Only nearly fainted.

It was quite embarrassing yesterday. The instructor was there and he was teaching us a move when I just couldn’t take it anymore I asked permission to sit down for a while. Alhamdulillah, after a few minutes of rest I could continue practicing without any hitches. Haha… teruk betul kan… owh yeah…then at 9 pm I tucked in early coz I couldn’t stand it anymore. Late nights and busy schedules and full classes and practicals with little rest, I just warranted a break. I woke up in the morn. (01.30, 10 dec 04)

Sooooooooooooo coooooooooooooldd!!

It’s been raining for 3 days and nights. I wake up to an extremely cold and wet morning and tuck in under a wet night, all wrapped up in my sweater and sleeping bag. The skies seem to be pouring it all out without signs of letting up. I know I should be thankful coz other places have very scant rain while we’re getting ‘em in bucketfuls, but it’s just sooooooooooooooo cooooooooooooooooooooold. We’re practically freezing. It’s also affecting our laundry which doesn’t seem to dry.

In front of the lecture hall there are dozens of umbrellas in all shapes and sizes and colours that it looks quite a fete. Even my bladder’s feeling its effects. I make increased visits to the loo.

Microbio practical

Today we had to prepare a smear of the different types of bacteria, stain those using different techniques then identify them. Although the steps were tedious, the results which we observed under the microscope were amazing. Actually, it’s quite normal, nothing really fascinating. But, I’m just glad I’d got the chance to do it by myself. All the gram positive and negative bacteria not to mention the cocci, bacilli and spirochetes.

K, enuf for now.
