a nut case

The following case summary is the result of a conspiracy amongst my friends (faizah, sibah, asma’, syahadah & aishah) against me during one of the psychiatric lectures in the 2-week introduction to psychiatry in year 4.

The case:
This 23 year old malay lady presented with symptoms of attention deficit disorder.

History of presenting illness:

•Drowsy during the class
Duration: from the beginning until the end of the lecture for 4 years
Onset: acute
Aggravating factor: nik aishah
Relieving factor: faizah, eating, talking
Maintaining factors: lecturers voices especially dr umeed’s and dr hajee’s
•Able to sleep even while eating and nodding head
•Dysarthria due to uncontrolled drowsiness with drooling of saliva
•Sometimes associated with aggressive behavior such as attacking other students while she presents in front
•Motor disorder: has stereotype movement (regular, repeated, purposeless movement), normal posture.
•Stupor in class for a few minutes
•Recurrent history of sleeping disorders
•Recurrent history of being detected by lecturers in the class for being sleepy, yet arousable
•Not on any drugs but likes the smell of petrol at gas stations
•History of allergy to lecture halls at IMC, JHC and Temerloh Hospital
•Lack of motivation in class.

Hehe, okay, I can’t deny some of the facts stated above, but I have to say, drooling of saliva in class tak pernah eh :P huhu, inilah dia hasil kerja kawan-kawan baik ku.

i've been in the same usrah group since 1st year. my usrahmates are also my best friends.

our current naqibah is the 4th one. each naqibah had their own style and we learnt a lot from all of them.

we discuss a lot of issues and topics during our sessions.

everyone's consciousness level fluctuates during our sessions. gilir2 tidur sebab semua selalu kepenatan. presenter je tak boleh tidur hehe.

i'll miss my friends terribly when we graduate. but i know we will always have each other as our hearts are binded by iman inshaAllah.

Neonatology

Last week, we had a teaching session with Dr Hasmawati, a neonatologist from Kota Bharu Hospital.

She gave 4 lectures on neonatology and then we had a practical session on neonatal resuscitation. So we practiced resuscitation and intubation on a baby mannequin and we took turns acting out possible scenarios that could occur involving the neonate.

Best jugak jadi neonatologist. Boleh buat kerja2 anaesthetist jugak.

Just FYI, a baby is considered a neonate from birth until day 28, then the child is considered an infant until 1 years old. After that they are considered toddlers until 3 years old. 4-6 is preschool age. And then they become the school-going group .

just another day

my weekend amat mengenyangkan.

since i skipped lunch on both days sebab malas nak pegi cafe and saving my stomach for the feasts ahead, i was practically starving masa jamuan makan.

since our paediatric department is lacking of lecturers, we have to outsource and have paediatricians from private practice teach us. so they are only available on saturdays and susah sket utk buat plans on weekends.

on saturday ada case presentation with dr abdullah zawawi. my friend presnted a case of tetralogy of fallot (congenital heart disease) presenting with bronchopneumonia. the doctor discussed aspects which our simple, unthinking minds wouldn't have thought of. he asked a lot abt the pathophysiology of the disease. barulah faham sket the subject hehe.

then malam ada jamuan raya (2 days post syawal) my batch. we invited prof hamiza to be the guest of honour. panjang lebar die bercerita. she has so many wonderful tales of O&G that anyone yg dengar would want to become one.

then on suday was jack's open house.

monday we had no class so pergi other wards buat short case. at paeds ward kene marah dgn dgn dr selva. then ptg ada gp discussion.

today. ada kelas malam on developmental assessment with dr siti nor.

oh, i got a parking ticket last friday sebab park kat bust stop dpn uia. ces.

the good thing about having 100 people in a batch is that even if only 20% of your batch attends your wedding, that's still 20 people. quite a handful to handle if they all come at the same time.

2 weddings and 2 babies

yesterday morning i finished my 5 deliveries, alhamdulillah.

i stayed at the hospital for my oncall from 9pm until 9am. initially it was a slow night until about 2am when the ladies started pouring into the labour room one by one. all 4 of us who waited were able to conduct 2 deliveries.

but for the first baby i did get into a tight situation with my friend. i'm rather sad and ashamed with myself for how i reacted to the situation in my exasperation to get a baby. i have no reasonable explanation for it. i guess both of us were in that state of mind making my spontaneous decision unforgivable. i hope my friend forgives me. we're in the same group and i have to face her everyday.

yesterday i attended 2 walimahs. one was in kuantan, my medical classmate Huda and the 2nd was in Temerloh, kak Jan's and Faizal. haha they ended up together. sesuai sangatlah.

after returning from the hospital like a zombie around 10pm (physically, mentally and emotionally drained) i went to bed immediately and awoke 2 hours later to go to huda's wedding.

sibah, asma', aishah and syahadah urged me to finish the delicious meal and we had to go to temerloh pulak for kak jan's majlis sambut menantu. i drove kak jan's car all the way to temerloh. (stop rolling ur eyes my dear friends :p ) the farthest journey so far for me. haha.



when we returned, i turned in early and only awoke this morning. terlebih tidur sampai dah termimpi2 pasal frightening creatures. i so read and watch too much fiction.

hamnah came to our program. die jadi orang Pekan sekarang.

a tazkirah subuh doesn't have to be mengantukkan. it can be done by the seaside and in the form of a pantomime. me and kinah paired up to give kisah ''ghulam'' to our adik2 baru. they all loved the story. i hope they managed to gain something from the story besides the laughter and joy

i just found out that my schoolmate, AZIRA has reported for duty in Kuantan as a dentist. huhu, my fren dah nak keje dah.

haha, since i'm still stuck in kuantan for another year, my friends plak yg datang sini. klaka la.

kat pahang ni dah boleh buat reunion SMI Hidayah. kat mane2 prog i pegi mesti at least 1 or 2 from hidayah. that's considered a lot for a small private religious school. tp i tak kenal dah junior2 yang makin ramai. setakat junior yg ada mase form5 dulu je i kenal. that's wat happens wen u dont go to alumni programs. but what to do, i'm limited by my geographical location and limited free time.
