our beloved nawaz

nawaz trying out his new spongebob squarepants stickers

nawaz with his mama at pizza hut.
..................................................................

nawaz is at a stage where he copies practically everything that people say and do.

he hears some people call out" love", so he uses it too (but he says "luf").

when he hears someone say awla, he thinks it is "awluf" (kakyung says it sounds like "count olaf") haha.

he's the only guy who can call me a-yang, hehe.

die suke hati je call "ayah", "mak", "amad", "mon".

he loves to shout and scream (welcome to the family!).

and he loves to throw things around and at people too (takut je bile die pegang our handphones).

he is soooooo active and can come up with a different activity every 5 seconds. baru je nak kemas toys yang dia sepahkan, dia dah panjat something else.

he loves to hug his mama and is very jealous when any of his aunts hug his mama.

he loves to smile especially after his first bite of any food.

he likes to cry and merajuk but he can always be bought with food, hehe.

this boy definitely loves to eat. batu and kayu pun dia tak tolak kot. kalau ade orang tgh makan, die terus datang buat muka sweet and smiling sambil meminta makanan. he can even eat pedas food.

he's only 2 years old but ppl think he's 3 already because he's soo big tapi cakap pelat lagi. he's oredi bigger than aisyah.

some of his vocab (he can only say the last sounds of each word):

ufu = susu (we all dont know how this happened)
ak alu = tak malu
a nak = tak nak
air shong = air kosong

he likes to add "naa" at the end of certain words like "cantik naa" or "comel naa"
i love my nawaz!

nawaz da balik kl... waaaa.

after 6 weeks at other people's homes and seeing other people with their siblings, arriving at my own home is a blessing :)

i have 5 wedding invitation cards and 3 postcards from Australia, yay!

thank you kak aliya, sibah+ asma'+ saidat and ramzi. suke sgt :)

i had a wonderful 6-week electives in KL and now i shall enjoy my 2-week break!

p.s. the greatest thing about being an aunt is when your nephew runs toward you smiling and screaming your name walaupun pelat. best gile that feeling!

the last week

it's already the last week of electives. pasni balik umah cuti 2 minggu yay! i can go to my friend's weddings and meet up with sume kengkawan yg dah berzaman tak jumpe.

setakat ni, i think menarik la HUKM nih. the doctors are soo nice, from the housemen to the specialists. the hospital is air-conditioned, sejuk je. sebab tu kot sume tak marah2. and we stay 3-minits away from the hospital. jalan kaki je everyday.

we've managed to do a variety of stuff. attend the medical wards, join 5th year dermato lectures, go the A&E CPC and also ngade2 on-call sampai kol 11pm. dapat lah 3 bijik epal fuji plus a chinese patient's anak asked if i had a boyfriend...haha. the tree of us have to roate wards between the female and male medical wards and also coronary care unit (CCU) and cardiac rehab ward (CRW)

me, aishah and timah are staying at iman jeffrey's nenek's house. her nenek is extremely baik and klaka. rasa macam dok hotel je kat sini. cume terase effect global warming sket je. otherwise, everything is swell.

The theatre

the 5 elective girls making history at CUCMS and lovin' it

...............................................................

"Kanvas " is a theatre produced and presented by the 2nd year students of CUCMS about 2 weeks ago. Tengah2 busy nak 1st prfessional exam plus so many activities going on, sempat lagi derang buat teater. memang tabik habes lah.

It was absolutely entertaining. I didn’t really get the whole story as it was rather deep but I did get the gist of it and also a good laugh as well. It’s about an artist who paints a picture of a lady in white and then she comes to life and wishes to be given the beautiful colours of the world. The artist allowed her to venture into the world and see how bad it actually was and why he refused to tarnish her pure whiteness. So this white lady meets all sorts of people; those who are arrogant, those with a vengeance, those who are greedy. Then, they all met the angel of death and died. And then, the artist woke up from his dream, ces!

The CUCMS students are extremely talented. They went all out for this production. Kagum gile tengok derang buat props, control the lighting and making the sound effects with the keyboard. The pre-requisite to go on-stage is one must cover the aurah, so those who do not wear tudung had to do so if they wanted to be involved, hehe…

I was terribly amazed at how sporting the lecturers were. A deputy dean-cum-cardiologist (Prof Latif) singing and playing the guitar with a band of student guitarists. An anatomist (Prof Nasa) acting as a fisherman and father. The Dean (Pfof Hatta) and deputy Dean (Prof Hamdan) reciting beautiful self-written and heart-warming poems. How cool is that! I can’t imagine that happening in UIA.

I’m glad I went. Lesson of the day: we should celebrate different talents and potentials and channel them towards the cause of the ummah! InshaAllah, the logam in them will be beneficial for the ummah. We just need to provide them with the Islamic fikrah and then they can do wonders.

books galore

Since I’ve been in Bangi, I’ve been able to delight myself with wonderful fiction books from fatimah’s home library. I’m especially interested in reading books that have been adapted into a film because then I can compare them, hehe.

Among the books that I’ve read include:

1. The Spiderwick Chronicles (consists of 5 books)

  • Dr Melur said that she watched the movie at the cinema with her kids and they loved it. When I found the book at timah’s house, I just had to read it.
  • I think it’s a very clever book. Rather dark and full of scary but unique characters and also enchanting rhymes.
  • I saw the movie at home. It was a bit different because the movie was set in the modern times compared to the book. And they had to alter the storyline to cut it short and introduce all the characters. I like the book better. Highly recommended if you’re into fantasies and children’s stories.

2. Miss Potter

  • The cover of the book had Renee Zelweger’s face on it so I knew that it had been adapted into a movie. The book tells of Miss Potter, an unmarried middle-aged English lady who lives with her parents in London and has no friends. She loves drawing and painting and making up stories. One day, a friend urges her to publish her book. There, she meets Norman Warne who is enthusiastic in publishing her book. They fall in love but faces opposition by Miss Potter’s parents who are very strict on social status. She was adamant with regards to her choice and her parents gave in. They agreed to allow her to get engaged secretly but she had to wait until the summer was over to see if her feelings changed or not. They wrote each other everyday until one day the letters stopped and she was informed that he was sick. When she got back to London, he’d died because of a chronic cough. She was devastated and became depressed. She moved to the country and met another guy who was sweet and she was able to recover from depression and began to draw again.
  • Sedih jugak cite ni. Nasib baik ending die menggembirakan.

3. Charlotte’s Web

  • This book is very enlightening and funny. It tells of a friendship between a pig, Wilbur and a spider, Charlotte. The spider saves the pig from being slaughtered by deceiving the humans. She weaves a few writings in her web about how terrific the pig is and soon everyone thinks it’s a divine sign that the pig is special because spiders can’t write. Its funny how easily people are fooled.
  • I haven’t seen the film yet.

4. Edgar and Ellen

  • This one is about two mischievous twins who play pranks on the townsfolks.
  • I think it’s biasa je. I wouldn’t go so far as to recommend it.

ok, i know i shud be reading tarbiyyah books and also books for the future like financial planning and all. reading storybooks can be considered a regression, but i don't really care. nanti i'll read those books. i've got a whole set of serious books at my bedside to read, but i keep grabbing the storybooks instead, hehe.

3rd week

It's already my last week here in CUCMS. The 3rd week flew by quickly. We had a field practice at Sungai Congkak. they simulated a flood disaster and we were divided into a site rescue team and also a hospital team. some of my colleagues became the victims and some of us became the rescue team. we were able to practice triaging patients, carrying them over a distance and giving first aid. i still have insect bites marks complimentary of the bugs there. we had an extremely memorable war game, especially the smell. our bombs were balloons filled with belacan+paint+water. although this is my 4th time with this war game thingy, i am so not getting used to it. tak suke x3.

then thursday was a day for resting and washing my belacan-soaked clothes. pastu kene revise for the friday test. (alhamdulillah i didn't do too bad). friday afternoon kene travel gi program kat gombak. i met loads and loads of people; old friends, friend's adiks, friend's kakak ipar and abang, people who went to the same prog as me before and wonderful new people. banyak jugak kawan2 yg same2 tido thru most of the talks... hehe.

then yesterday, ayah came to pick up kak chik's stuff from her hostel so i went there for the 1st time. lepas mengangkut barang2 kakchik yg amat berat from tingkat 4 all the way to the car, i'm glad that ayah could send us to my rent house in bangi. i cant imagine going by public transport with kak chik's bags.

balik2 je kene siapkan pulak assignment PBL yg kene cari source from the internet. susah jugak when takde internet access nih. terpakse menagih simpati timah and her sister. alhmadulillah its the last assignment of this whole course.

.................................................................................

ok, here are some of the common questions (and answers) that I’ve received over the past 3 weeks from friends and family. penat jugak nak menjawab 100x.

Why are you in KL? I thought you were in UIA Kuantan? Are you having your semester break?

Yes, I’m still in UIA. I’m at the end of my 4th year and will start my 5th year in June iA. Currently, I’m doing my electives in CUCMS for 4 weeks

Electives? See-You-what?

The elective posting is a 6-week posting that is done at the end of the 4th year provided that one passes all the year 3 and year 4 postings. If one fails any posting, then one has to do a remedial posting during that time. I chose to do my electives in Cyberjaya University College of Medical Sciences (CUCMS)

So, what are you doing in CUCMS? I thought it doesn’t have a hospital?

I’m doing a 4-week course on disaster and relief medicine. I got to know about it from Prof Latif when he came to Kuantan for a talk.

Where are you staying at while you’re here?

I’m renting a house in Kg Dato’ Abu Bakar Baginda, Bangi. It’s my friend’s dad’s house. The rent is just to cover the water and electricity bills i guess.

So you commute everyday from Bangi to Cyberjaya and back?

Yep, my friends have a car.

What about the remaining 2 weeks?

I’ll be doing an attachment at the internal medicine department of HUKM under the supervision of Dr Oteh

Any more questions???

Owh, one question from yours truly:

are you happy with your choices so far?

Definitely!
