unwavering suppport

when i read "ayahanda" tun mahathir's blog, i'm amazed at the amount of supporters he has. kelakar je tengok orang literally 'kowtow'ing to him, and holding on to his every word and wanting him back as the PM.

judging from the 600 comments, he has quite a large fan-base. watever he says or writes, people will agree with and accept 100%.

a few years ago when i really hated him for all the corruption that he was responsible for, i never would have thought that he'd have a blog one day and be writing like this.

the future holds many possibilities. you just never know what may happen.

i must admit that some of his writings may ring true and his vast experience in politics should be documented, but i disagree with some of his backlashing and political views.

at the end of the day, i guess everyone will give their unwavering support to someone they trust no matter who they are. it could be an ustaz or politician or mufti. it could be one's own parent.

sometimes we do it unknowingly. we tend to be partial to some people and hold them very high and holy in our sight that they can do no wrong. this is called obsession. if that person is truly good then it would be okay. but what if we misjudge a person who we think is good but is not actually.

since no one other than the Prophet s.a.w is ma'sum or protected from mistakes, i guess we should be careful with who we follow because at the end of the day, the prophet mentioned that everyone will be gathered with people that they use to idolize. (i'll put up the hadith later inshaALLAH).

the mazahib imams used to worry about this and remind their followers that they should always refer to the Quran and sunnah before their own opinon which is not free from flaws.

batch picture

the good thing about having 100 people in a batch is that even if only 20% of your batch attends your wedding, that's still 20 people. quite a handful to handle if they all come at the same time.

punye lah ramai, you can barely identify anyone

2 weddings and 2 babies

yesterday morning i finished my 5 deliveries, alhamdulillah.

i stayed at the hospital for my oncall from 9pm until 9am. initially it was a slow night until about 2am when the ladies started pouring into the labour room one by one. all 4 of us who waited were able to conduct 2 deliveries.

but for the first baby i did get into a tight situation with my friend. i'm rather sad and ashamed with myself for how i reacted to the situation in my exasperation to get a baby. i have no reasonable explanation for it. i guess both of us were in that state of mind making my spontaneous decision unforgivable. i hope my friend forgives me. we're in the same group and i have to face her everyday.
.....................................................................................................................................

yesterday i attended 2 walimahs. one was in kuantan, my medical classmate Huda and the 2nd was in Temerloh, kak Jan's and Faizal. haha they ended up together. sesuai sangatlah.

after returning from the hospital like a zombie around 10pm (physically, mentally and emotionally drained) i went to bed immediately and awoke 2 hours later to go to huda's wedding.

sibah, asma', aishah and syahadah urged me to finish the delicious meal and we had to go to temerloh pulak for kak jan's majlis sambut menantu. i drove kak jan's car all the way to temerloh. (stop rolling ur eyes my dear friends :p ) the farthest journey so far for me. haha.

when we returned, i turned in early and only awoke this morning. terlebih tidur sampai dah termimpi2 pasal frightening creatures. i so read and watch too much fiction.

3 down 2 to go

i got another baby boy yesterday. it was at the eleventh hour. the patient came in with a fully dilated cervix. i kinda competed with a midwife student and we got on each other's nerves. but i dah apologize today.

tadi i jaga one patient from 11am but by 2.30pm she was not ready to deliver yet so i had to give up the case and hope for another 2 tonight inshaAllah.

this weekend ada another round of walimahs to go to.

it's the season to be married apparently. another round of weddings are due in december.

babies

i am gravida 0 para 2. a boy and a girl. alhamdulillah.

i managed to conduct 2 deliveries today. alhamdulilah the nurses who coached me were very2 nice and eager to teach. i learnt a lot.

am looking forward to the other 3 babies.

THE SECRET

when kakyung told me about THE SECRET and The Law of Attraction, Prof Muhaya's talk came into mind. it was exactly what she mentioned in her talk. alhamdulillah she shared it with us.

do look it up. it's a very interesting concept.

pictures tell it all

the lovely newlyweds; amirah and yuhan.
a walimah penuh ngan tradisi johor. i so do not want to go thru all that.

hampir pengsan

alhamdulillah i went to the ward yesterday and covered the reluctant patient's history. otherwise i would have been buried alive by Dr Murad this morning.

he chose my patient to discuss. the case was of missed abortion or intrauterine death. he approached the case very thoroughly. alhamdulillah i could answer some of his questions.

towards the end of the discussion, about 1 hour later, i started to feel queasy and my already blurred vision became worse. i was seeing black dots everywhere. i sat on a nearby chair. dr tanye: äre you pregnant?" haha. hypoglycaemic attack kot! or even vasovagal attack.

my near-faint attacks have happened quite often. i hope i won't experience it when i'm a houseman nanti. it would be too embarrassing.

the trip back home

i had an interesting weekend.

i had the opportunity to jaulah (berjalan2) to my hometown with my medical colleagues, some of them are my bestest of friends and some i am not so close with. our troupe consisted of 13 people and 3 cars. since i was the only johorian around, i was supposed to be the lead.

haha, all this while, i travelled from johor to kuantan and back by bus except for the first time. and of course lah i slept throughout the 6-hour trip or at least berangan2 and fikir macam2. of course lah jugak tak sempat tengok alam sekitar. even if i did, i wouldn't have remembered it.

so, i ended up calling mak and ayah up several times. my geography is truly lousy. i cant even remember the roads in kuantan after 5 years here. i remembered the directions to my house mase sekolah menengah kot. even then i cant really describe it to others.

so, in my moments of doubt, my bestest of friends ni menambahkan lagi my doubt "betul ke jalan ni? betul ke?" i let out a sigh of relief every time we were on the right track. maybe sometimes a bit too relieved.

alhamdulillah we managed to arrive in jb and stop by at the UTM convocation festival. by the time everyone reached my house, everyone was flat and worn out.

the next morning, after a wonderful breakfast prepared by mak, we headed for amirah's house for her nikah event. i have never reached taman pulai indah before so i had to ask mak for directions. we made a wrong turn into kangkar pulai and tawaf 3 times at a roundabout. eventually, we reached her house. it was worth it seeing our friend getting married.

after that we wanted to go to mastura's walimah in bandar baru uda, jb. i'm not really familiar with the roads there but i have gone many times so its like dejavu. i cannot visualise the roads but when i reach there, only then can i figure out the roads. this doesn't really go well when you are in a convoy of 3 cars. the food there was great.

what was supposed to be a very enjoyable trip, became a stressful one for me because i felt responsible for our detours and missed wrong roads. and my friends kept rubbing it in lah kan.

moral of the story: belajar lah mengingati jalan because you can't rely on others all the time (or can i?)

i'm really glad that i was able to spend some time with kakyung, nibah, kakchik and nawaz. it helped to resolve my stress a lot. we all went to convo UTM that night and had a wonderful time shopping. sume org sumbat dalam kete honda city sebab nak jimat minyak. although our behinds are massive, we managed to squeze ourselves (3 girls and 2 ladies) at the back seat. huhu.

later that night, we watched a cd on "THE SECRET". mebe i'll write about it later.

the next day, there were 2 weddings that i attended. one was in BBU also, kakyung's colleague and the other one was ustazah kartini's son, at rumah alumi UTM (i'm so not having my kenduri there). we went to the 2nd one just before sending me off at larkin bus terminal so i was not really dressed up for the wedding. malu je jumpe sume org yg dikenali in baju t-shirt and pants at a wedding.

after 4 weddings, you kinda get an idea of how grand johorian weddings actually are, except yang pakcik makcik punye lah.

then, i went back to kuantan on the evening bus and arrived around 9pm only to have to go to the hospital to clerk patients for the ward round with dr murad this morning. the patient was reluctant to be clerked and i was able to ask a few questions only. the rest of the information was obtained from the case notes. i had to catch a ride back to the hostel with anyone available.

alhamdulillah ya Allah for allowing me to go back home and see my family, even for a short while.

Obs and Gyny

"welcome back to O&G", say Dr Ziana, the course coordinator (and also my supervisor)

today is day 1. i'm posted to the antenatal ward. next week i'll be in the labour room.

my supervisor wants me and wa to follow her during her on-calls which start today.

i went to Prof Muhaya's motivational talk last saturday and received a wonderfully refreshing bekalan for my days ahead. this time, inshaAllah i'll share it (seriously). but later, hehe.

some articles

i was reading this

All races have their strengths. I personally feel that the Malays are a more warm-hearted, easy-going, friendly and graceful sort of people – except in religion. The Chinese are hard working, great in business and disciplined - as their religion is money. The Indians are excellent with debates and they are heavily represented in speaking up for our rights as NGO/trade union activists, and yes, lawyers. And we know the flip side of these strengths too, don’t we? When the Malays are too easy-going, when the Chinese become coldly calculating and when the Indians get overly argumentative.

I am in danger of over-generalising, but then again, when we crack racial jokes, why do we laugh? Because something rings true?

A Chinese friend who used to do marketing surveys told me: “If we go to a Malay housing area, they will have time to talk to us, occasionally they will even invite us for tea. But in a Chinese area, they usually can’t even be bothered to open the gate. Indians may start to debate and lecture us.”

Another Chinese woman swears that, “Malays are more romantic. Chinese are more practical but colder. Indian men are fun to talk to but, aiyo, too much ego.”

A Chinese press photographer says, “If we need help from strangers, Malays are usually willing to help us pose a bit to make our pictures look better. Chinese don’t want to `get involved’. Indians, even though we don’t ask them, will come running to be inside the photo.”

A Malay architect once told me, “The Malays like to talk about things in a graceful roundabout way instead of coming right out to ask for it. The Chinese are more direct and business-like.”

i think that each race have their strengths. if properly guided by the Aqidah and channeled towards goodness, then everyone will prosper. that's why we have to do dakwah. make more people as our allies and reduce foes.

i've read saiful islam's article that wa told me to read.

my comment: yep wa, a very good read. if you are fortunate enough to receive something good, you cannot expect that it will always remain good unless you work at maintaining and preserving its goodness. maintenance is important.

what i did at home

i'm back in kuantan again.

cukuplah 4 days of sleeping and and watching tv at home.

i watched;
-gilmore girls -episode where rory graduates from yale and is about to leave town (terharu tengok the whole town celebrate her and her mom's reaction),
-the day after tomorrow (i guess that's how it wud look like if the tsunami hit new york. ada part2 yg illogical)
-hancock (biase je)
-wall-e (about 2 robots who can just speak their names, falling in love? it didn't really interest me much except how they imagined ppl of the future living in out of space and getting fat due to lack of excercise)
-ironman (i watched it while ironing. hmm, i don't think it was very interesting)
-the seeker (if the boy who is a seeker has completed his mission, what becomes of him after that??)
-becoming jane (again)

i read;
-Diana wynn jones' "the house of many ways" (best becoz the main character loves reading books, and suke bace howl and his wife asyik gaduh je. after reading so much fiction, dah boleh agak the bad guy sape.)
-Dr Asri's "11 perkara yang membatalkan syahadah"
-Allan Pease's "Intrepreting body language"

i ironed a whole bakul of ayah's and mak's clothes.

i ate durians with ayah.

i showed ayah how to use simple shortcuts on the computer like ctrl+A,ctrl+S, ctrl+V. ayah macam kagum gile.
(i bet ramzi is laughing his heart out reading this)

i bandaged ayah's swollen sprained right ankle.

I went with mak to pick up hammad from tuition.

i went out with kak ainal.

now i'm back in kuantan and i have to study again.

rhino course!

that's the main reason i'm still in kuantan this very moment.

alhamdulillah, the rhino update is over. i went because of ayah's worsening allergic rhinitis. tapi what i learnt from the course is that the symptoms can only be controlled, but the disease cannot be cured. ayah ahs to take inhaled steroids to relieve his symptoms. tu la ayah tanak jumpe ENT specialist

will be going back to jb tomorrow morning yay!

stories thru pictures

this was taken during the pharmaco teaching with prof T. Aza amat mengantuk and cranky sekali. cantik gak my phone nye lay out. the picture turned out well.

this is Azizah, the elective student from Ireland. there were many elective students but they attached themselves to the ward.

geramm sangat tengok kucing ni tidur. orang lain qiyam, die pun nak join gak.

hamnah came to our program. die jadi orang Pekan sekarang.

a tazkirah subuh doesn't have to be mengantukkan. it can be done by the seaside and in the form of a pantomime. me and kinah paired up to give kisah ''ghulam'' to our adik2 baru. they all loved the story. i hope they managed to gain something from the story besides the laughter and joy

Essential books for Internal Medicine

these books came in pretty handy during ward rounds and also discussions, when refrerring to Davidson or Kumar and Clark was too much of a hassle.

last entry for the day

suddenly terlalu banyak entry hari ni. thanx to wireless yang accessible from room via roomie's laptop. cool giler. only downside is kene dok kat ruang depan pintu dgn pintu luas terbuka and boleh nampak sume orang yang naik turun tangga. takpe. i'm thick-skinned.ada banyak melanin pigmentations.

k, one more thing i wanna write about.

this morning after CPC, the 3rd years who are about to start their first posting in internal medicine asked for tips and advice on how to approach and go about the whole clinical rotation (semangat giler deme nih. bagus2. that's the spirit.kene contohi derang nih). altho i have to admit that i am in no way the best person to be giving out advices, since the ketua only knew me and the other person he knew didnt answer his sms and still present in kuantan post-exams, i thought i'd just share watever i cud.

takut jugak tersalah nasihat but i told them what i thought i wish i knew when i was in my 3rd year. azza, wa and hanim helped out too. ramzi lambat sgt dtg.

hope they got some benefit.

ps. gud thing juniors tak bley bace this blog. hehe

skoolmates in pahang

i just found out that my schoolmate, AZIRA has reported for duty in Kuantan as a dentist. huhu, my fren dah nak keje dah.

haha, since i'm still stuck in kuantan for another year, my friends plak yg datang sini. klaka la.

kat pahang ni dah boleh buat reunion SMI Hidayah. kat mane2 prog i pegi mesti at least 1 or 2 from hidayah. that's considered a lot for a small private religious school. tp i tak kenal dah junior2 yang makin ramai. setakat junior yg ada mase form5 dulu je i kenal. that's wat happens wen u dont go to alumni programs. but what to do, i'm limited by my geographical location and limited free time.

schoolmates (and others i know) in pahang:

  • UIA kuantan; me, syahadah, sakinah, safura, raihanah adik kinah
  • shah putra: shahidah adik nadirah
  • UMP: lukman sam (dulu abg irfan and haizad)
  • pekan; abang irfan and hamnah
  • aishah md nor is with husband in triang (tak sempat jumpa lg setakat nih)
  • kak maryam khalid is with her husband in kubang buaya ke mane tah
  • IKIP persediaan for jordan; adilah (batch 9 kot) -baru kenal kat kuantan
  • KPM: another junior tapi i forgot her name
  • nadirah kawen org pahang. her cousin is my junior
  • farhanin's cousin 2 org masuk uia kuantan
ade lagi ke?

movie review

one of the first things i did after exams last wednesday was buy the DVD ''Becoming Jane''.

setelah teruja membaca spoiler myra i had to restrain myself from buying it straight away sebab tanak distracted tengok movie (haha, i got distracted doing other stuff).

so, even though i'had already read myra's detailed narration of the movie, i still found it absolutely entertaining. baju zaman ni menutup aurat betul. tinggal nak pakai tudung je.

i've also become a james McAvoy fan. dia tersangat lah charming hehe.

other similar movies that i love are Pride and Prejudice, Ever After, Miss Potter.

(how does watching movies meningkatkan iman?? cane ye nak justify to self)

yesterday

miscommunication

yesterday, asma' asked me to oversee her usrah group coz she couldn't make it so i went becoz i had nothing better to do anyway. rupa2nye it was her anak usrah's usrah session. she thot i was there to nazir the session. so i duduk je lah kat situ even though i was actually quite clueless. bagus lah adik2 nih. takpe, a tazkirahs are always welcome in any from they come in.

kesimpulannya, always get ur facts straight. to avoid embarrassment. then again, may be it was meant to be so that u can learn from the experience.

lap top problems

my laptop cannot get wireless. so ramzi's looking into it.

twins?

me and roomie aka azza

do we look alike?

people keep asking whether we're twins or not.

i don't think we look the same at all. sebab pakai specs je kot.
