This week has been so hectic that it feels like we’ve been here for several weeks already. We’ve already received a 1-inch-thick pile of notes to go through which I still haven’t done yet. Well, let’s talk about something more interesting. My weekend.
Early Saturday morning, I woke up slightly late (heh..define slightly) coz I stayed up translating the poster for next week. Got up to pray Subuh then went back to sleep. I woke back up at 10 a.m. I washed my clothes manually then spun them and had a bath. I prepared to go to Huda’s open house at 12.00 p.m. She invited the whole 105 students of my class. She booked a bus for us, but me, sibah, syahadah, asma’ and nik went by car with Azza coz we wanted to go back early. We had a KRJ program to go to at 2 p.m. The boys went in 2 cars and a convoy of motocycles. There was a table full of delicious, glorious food. There was satay, lontong, nasi beriyani, mee soto and pudding. I had loads of satays.
Around 1.30 p.m., we rushed back to the hostel, prayed and packed then we waited for pakcik husni to pick us up. We waited for quite a while and became restless waiting. Furthermore, we had little knowledge of the program we were headed to. All we knew is we were going and someone would pick us up. In the end it was pakcik Azzam who picked us up. So off we went to Balok. On the way, pakcik said that the participants that have registered were about 10 adolescents. Hmm… we thought…a ratio of 1 fasi to two participants…interesting.
Well, when we reached there we were led to the chalet where all the girls would be sleeping and boys had another next door. It was quite luxurious. After a few minutes we were called for a briefing of the program for the facilitators given by this ustaz whom I don’t remember his name. There were 2 male facis besides the five of us; Azlan and Abang Irfan, my junior. Both were from KUKTEM. We thought the ustaz would tell us what to do. Boy were we surprised when we found out that the the organizers were totally relying on us to handle the kids. The ustaz said he gave us all the freedom in the world to do whatever we wanted to do with the participants. When he suggested a few activities, I was quite glad he left it to us to decide. To them, ‘pidato’ should be one of the persembahan wajib…boh-ring…we suggested public speaking…but with a twist. In the end we turned it into a pertandingan bercerita. I’ll elaborate later.
Okay, after Asar, which took quite a while coz there was only one toilet and everyone was queuing to do their business, we hit the beach. We did the usual icebreaking activities and then played some ball. The girls were quite passive and quiet. My friends and I were the ones who kept chattering on and on. We’re just not a senyap lot. Trust us to create havoc wherever we are. Then it was time for Maghrib and after that was dinner arrived. we let the girls eat in groups so they could prepare for their performance that night while we prepared for the pertandingan bercerita. We had to prepare the flashcards on the spot. Alhamdulillah sempat siap.
After Isya’ came the performance event. I was the MC. We divided the session into two parts, the first was pertandingan bercerita followed by the pesembahan bebas. The pertandingan, handled by cbah coz she came up with the idea, was like this; cbah wud show a card and the first person must come up with a sentence. Then she’d show another card and the next person would make a sentence related to the first but using the 2nd word and etc. the persembahan bebas after that was quite dull becoz we couldn’t hear their voices. Us facis also wanted to oerform, so we did the “Sayalah Permata” song and asked everyone to join in.
Then came the interesting part, the video show session. Pakcik Husni brought his prtable DVD player. This is the first program that I’ve been to where we were supposed to watch a movie for fun. Usually the video shows would be Islamic but this time it was a ghost story. Pakcik Husni gave us several options either Emperor’s New Groove or The Message or One Missed Call. The last was a Japanese ghost story which topped the charts in Japan. It was unanimous. One Missed Call it was.
At first, the story buildup was slow and I was yawning already. Then came the scary part and we were all screaming at the top of our lungs. I realized I was a faci and all and was supposed to keep the situation under control, but I was one of the loudest screamer of all. Sibah who had fallen asleep woke up due to our horrendous screaming. Sian die.. puas my lungs exercise…the irony of the whole thing was, while we were screaming, the boys and pakciks next door were watching Omar Mokhtar…insaf…insaf…hehe
Due to the late night, we didn’t wake up for qiyam, just Subuh. I was tempted to sleep back again but there was a kuliah subuh. Then breakfast and back to the beaches. As the program name goes ‘Jom Bersantai’. We did some activities, played captain ball, made sandcastles and ate ice cream. We didn’t mandi pantai coz no one wanted to bring home wet clothes…memang relax gilerlah…hilang sket the tension of the hectic week…
Then we went back to the chalet and bersihkan diri. While waiting our turns for the toilet, we watched Te Emperor’s New Groove. The girls couldn’t appreciate it as I did. Maybe they just weren’t into cartoons. Ye lah…I kan cam budak2 sket…suke lah cartoons esp Disney movies…I sorang je ketawa…
Then it was time for the closing ceremony. There was this one boy who kept annoying us…huh, I tak puas hati…nak kenakan die jugak. We asked him to sing with us kat depan. Malu die. Haha, padan muka. After lunch and zuhur, we were ready to go back. But we wanted to singgah at kak Ju’s open house. So we went with pakcik samsuddin. Huh, mesti nibah jeles.
When we got there, the whole rombongan from uia was already there. We were already full from the lunch but there was still room for desert…hehe…then balik uia and tido sampai kol 6. asar, basuh baju, mandi then solat maghrib.
After isya’ ,we had to prepare for the exhibition. 12.00 baru balik bilik. Penat sangat.
Actually I want to comment a bit on the krJ kuantan. The circumstances here and KL and JB are sooo different. Of course lah, the geography’s different. But, you have to experience it to fully appreciate it. Back in JB, we were all mainly from the same school, neighbors, fathers as lecturers and know each other inside out, going to programs wasn’t a problem. Other places, parents had to force their kids to go, tak kisah laki or perempuan, same je.

Monday…I was very sleepy in class…the lectures were full. Then at noon, the JPA people came. I didn’t know what to expect. I wanted to wait gor everyone to settle their business before I asked the officer regarding my appeal. It was a really long wait since the process was tedious. When I finally asked, the person said he didn’t know anything about it. I felt my tears would come out any minute so I quickly went away and called ayah. Then, I cried.
After that was PBL, alhamdulillah it was with Dr Quazi still. After that, I went to the café since nazhan said he’d belanja me ice cream. Heh, I beat him in the minitest again. Bes plak getting free ice creams nih. Yummy. After finishing the ice cream, which replenished my mood, I went to pray Asar and then went to the comp lab. Chatted with Yung and went back to the room at 6 pm. Tasmi’ tak jadi malam tuh coz ustaz couldn’t make it so I did other stuff.

Tuesday…today or more correctly yesterday …we went to school with Azza’s merc coz we had to bring the exhibition stuff. Classes went as usual. Since we had no practical in the evening, we planned on setting up the exhibition site. Quite a number of people turned up. I helped a bit, but I had to do the Forum on Life paperwork… went back to the hostel around 5. solat, rehat, amek buku pharmaco and mandi. Then bukak pose…its my fifth day. Another 2 to go. It was shidah’s birthday so she bought each and everyone of us ayam KFC and pizza hut’s. Although by principle, I try my best to boycott, dah lah tgh berkempen supaye org boycott during ummatic week ni, gi makan plak…tp org dah belikan…makan je lah kan…hehe.
After maghrib was Profomar’s talk but I dozed off several times. Then I had tasmi’…ustaz geleng kepale je coz I wasn’t fluent. Then, I had a meeting on the forum on life. At 11 baru balik bilik.
K,that’s all for now…panjang gak..cover 4 days.
