MY TRIP TO GOMBAK

The time is 18:47. I’ve just come back from IIUM Gombak for the launching of Students’ Discipline Rules 2004 organized by STAD Gombak. Actually we arrived much earlier but i had to discuss a few things with zaid and abang syed regarding the bulletin. Well, the launch was held at the Banquet Hall of the Administration Building from 9.45 am to 12.00 pm. All the student representatives from all four societies here in Kuantan had to attend the launch. That’s why I had to go. I curse the day I agreed to be nominated for MSC council (Medical Students’ Society).

Actually, I didn’t really want to go in the first place. Though I got the memo on Monday morning, I didn’t reply whether I’d go or not coz I was still indecisive. I didn’t want to miss 4 lectures and a seminar lest I’d miss all the jokes and then I’d be the only one ignorant if others talk about it.

Even yesterday, coming back from Pakcik Husni’s place, I was still unsure of going. But right before I tucked in for the night, I weighed my options. I hadn’t really any tangible reasons for not attending thus; I’d go if I managed to wake up early. We had to leave at 6.30 am to reach Gombak in time.

(interlude for maghrib and isya prayers)

This morning, Azza woke me up at 6.15, I thought I was already late and took a quick bath. Passing by Kak Miza’s room, I saw that her lights were off and immediately woke her up. Huh, no way was I going to let her not go when I had to go. Unfortunately by the time I was ready, the bus hadn’t gone yet (I was secretly hoping to be left by the bus). But it was embarrassing to be the 2nd last person to go on the bus. Alhamdulillah kak Miza was the last one, tak de lah I malu sangat…hehe.

The trip didn’t turn out that bad after all. I managed to catch a few extra winks during the three-hour journey. And, the presentation on the dire condition of disciplinary problems faced by the mahallat admin and security people was somewhat appalling what with the vandalism, smoking, coupling, etc. Now, unluckily for the students, they’ve laid down stricter rules. I don’t really mind that much except for the stringent rules on electrical appliances and all, especially since my room has a massive fridge shared by the seniors. The kuantanians aren’t much of lawbreakers except when it comes to electrical appliances and cars. There are shared fridges and washing machines at almost every level and some juniors driving cars. But that’s as bad as it gets here.

After the programme, there there was a buffet lunch but by the time it was my turn, most of the dishes were finished, I just had oranges and plain rice…huh, sedeh. However, I got to see Aishah MN and Fanin after that and we had till 2.30 so bley jenjalan kejap. We bought bread at the Babush shop and caught up on times.

When we reached Kuantan, abang Syed wanted us to all to read the Rules Book (cam tau je kitorang sume malas) and he asked me to correct several mistakes in the bulletin. Even prof pakeer’s done checking it, just waiting for Sham to and Mr Kamarul to approve. Tadi, me and Azza have just looked through the bulletin again and edited it some more.

Owh, yesterday pak cik Husni invited the anak pakcik makciks here in uia to his house for dinner and he wanted to discuss some important matter. Even nizam was there. I borrowed Mulan II…hehe can’t wait to see it.
