A RETROSPECTIVE NARRATION OF MY PEKAN POSTING

yesterday marked the end of my 3-week posting in Pekan Town, the royal city of Pahang (royal je lebih tapi takde lah hebat mane pun). i have many sweet memories there and a few somewhat bitter ones. glad to be back in kuantan.

the people in Pekan are very nice and helpful. since we had visit many places such as the hospital units, a factory, the water treatment plant, and following the health inpsectors on their daily rounds and duties. wherever we went, we were treated so nicely and everyone answered our petty questions enthuthiastically.

this posting is to help us understand better community medicine and primary care. only now do i know the difference between klinik kesihatan and klinik desa and the functions of the doctors and community nurses. the health inspectors play a very big role in ensuring that the community doesn't get sick but no one really realizes and appreciates their efforts.

there's so many K's and P's that we have to know for example PPP is Pegawai Pembantu Perubatan, IK or Inspektor Kesihatan or health inspector is now known as PPKP (can't remember what that stands for) but if you add another K (Kanan) to the previous one, PPKPK it means the PPKP's boss. then ther's PKA (Pegawai Kesihatan Awam) and PRA. confused already? then i've achieved my goal hehe :P

posing in front of the PKD (Pejabat Kesihatan Daerah) office on our 1st official day in Pekan.
everyone was eager and excited.

getting acquainted with the Pekan Hospital. still excited and wide-eyed.

the whole rowdy group in front of Peramu Jaya Community Policlinic with Dr Rusini, the Family Medicine Specialist

following the malaria unit on a spraying job at Kg Gumumin Chini, an Orang Asli village.
dogs to them are like cats to us . they were everywhere. on the way back we stopped at Tasik Chini and also ate some truly delicious durians. puas dah makan durian.

following the CDC (communicable disease control) unit on a TB contact tracing mission in Runchang. we had to ride a 4-wheel drive to reach that particular house. looking at the huts they live in, i feel so thankful and blessed with everything i have. imagine 3 families living in such a small house. wow.

there's more pics but i've just put up a few so u'd get a general idea of what i've been doing for the past 3 weeks.

i do look forward to my 3-day riverine health in Ulu Tembeling next week. i've already bought the necessary shoes to wear on the boat. hehe, it's not a sin to be excited rite.

.............................................................................................................................................................

i did something impulsive today. i actually did it without considering too much. i succumbed to my vanity and bought a pair of 1-month trial contact lenses without any justification. i spent quite some time just sticking the lenses into my eyes. i'm predicting a long and tedious month ahead. i'm still feeling nauseated and lightheaded since i stepped out of the optometrist. i hope i istiqamah with these lenses. my current habits are gonna make it quite hard to be vigilant. let's pray that i willbe so that i get my money's worth.
