surgery posting day 4

4 days of surgery posting and my heels are swollen!

i haven't been able to do any procedure yet because the housemans are quite busy to teach us. macam terkapai2 je kat wad tatau nak buat ape. the doctors just expect us to improve our history taking and physical examination skills. tengah merangkak2 lagi ni.

yesterday i observed an appendicectomy and laparotomy query of by a pelvic abscess. tu pun nasib2 je we were around when the patient was about to be sent to the operation theatre. me and five friends were laughing to bits when we saw ourselves in our "tellytubby"-like OT uniform. klaka sangat. no wonder the seniors keep making fun of it. we went to the OT at 5.30pm and returned to the ward at 8.30pm. then i had to continue with my very first on-call. kene balik pukul 10.00pm. there wasn't much to do so i went around and ziarah the patients. my geroup was assigned to the female ward and the activities there are not so dynamic. not too many patients so very few procedures. banyak pun yang houseman je bley buat. the male ward is overflowing with patients. tak aci la they get to see many more cases and procedures. takpe, we'll get our chance insyaAllah.

going back to the mahallat yesterday my heels were really painful to tread on. i had to tiptoe and walk slowly. owh and i have a seminar tomorrow with a lecturer whom is notorious for being rather strict and mean when the occasion arises. not to mention the assignments we have to submit by monday.

and this is just the 1st week. hopefully i have better days ahead.
